September: Elías Merino and Daniel del Río WFS residency

The Spanish artists Elías Merino and Daniel del Río will develop together two installative pieces in the Game Of Life Foundation. Their work has been exhibited and performed through the years in pieces and installations in museums, art centers and specialized venues.
Through this residency they will explore the possibilities of computer-generated sound synthesis and physical diffusion in the Wave Field Synthesis system creating two sound works:
Studies of Indivisible Streams is sound installation part of the project Indivisible Streams that suggest a non-expectation listening space and the unitary feeling of installation through an unitary sound shape. The piece aims to explore the distance between the listener and the object listened, giving to the sound a `specific entity’ nature, where the sound behaves in variation in a single position, instead of developing itself through time. They will explore the idea of indivisibility, materialized in concrete abstract sound bodies, which behaves thought bodily gestures in time.
Fluctuating Melisma is a sound installation, which seeks to make an approach to choral music through composition and synthesis techniques based on the new algorithmic systems of music creation. In this light, its aim is to create a new perspective of choral composition and computer music, as well as an experience and a listening situation that born from the relationship, in the artistic plane, between the human voice in choral format and the aesthetics and compositional perspectives of computer-generated music.

Elías Merino (Madrid 1985) is a sonic practitioner and composer based in the UK. Currently he is working in the exploration of computer-generated sound after some years in- volved in acousmatic and electroacoustic music. Merino is interested in different ap- proaches related with sound and digital arts such the exploration of time, the distance be- tween subject and the objecthood, the Sublime,or specific and plural sound artifacts in multi-monofocal spaces. Elías presents his work in sound compositions and installations, which are exhibited, released, performed and diffused in different countries.
Currently Elías is a researcher in computer music at the University of Huddersfield.

Daniel del Río (Guadalajara 1989), works in sound and installation. Based on actual com- puter languages, he has been developing sound installations and sound di ussions in a variety of spaces around noise and multifocal electroacustic / computer-generated compo- sitions. His work habe been exhibited in the Uk, Spain, Japan, Latinamerica, USA or Ger- many.
He Currently runs Reductive, a platform dedicated to sonic arts internationally, res ponsi- ble for the publication of works in digital and physical format. On the other hand, Daniel is co-editor with Heather Frasch and Ryoko Akama of reductive journal.
